High Speed Wireless Internet for the Mansfield District

Unfortunately this project has been shelved. We don't think we can have the system in place in time to help the folk who will be loosing 1 Way Satellite and ISDN Home, which was the reason we started the project.. The main delay has been the shipment of equipment from Taiwan. We received half of the shipment, however the manufacturer ran out of material for the second shipment. They have agreed to replace some of those antennas with Next G / 3G very high gain Yagi antennas, which may be of benefit to some people, contact me for more details.

I oppologise that we have not been able to complete the project and offer the network as promised. There are some other options. If you would like any advise, again, feel free to email me.

We are now using a Next G solution here, for our internet access and to upload the Mansfield Weather files to the server. It is more expensive than our ISDN home and we did need to purchase a Yagi antenna to get a good signal. With Next G the higher the signal strength, the faster it works.

There are some implications for Mansfield Weather. ISDN home offered no limit on the data usage. Our Next G plan does limit our usage, therefore we can't upload as much data for the Weather Site. To reduce usage we have had to reduce the upload intervals of the data, and take out some of the graphics. During servere weather events I will decrease the data upload intervals so the, for example, wind and temp data is available minute by minute. There are rummers that the Next G limits will be increased around Xmas time. If that happens then we can reverse the changes we have made and put things back to how they where with the ISDN setup.

Stephen Watson.
